The best of all the colors
When the Parker 5th came out as a fountain-pen-look-alike;I who collect fountain pens, decided to try one. I now own 4. The truth is that if you use a fine tip, it almost doesn't make a difference what color you use if you're writing with Fine, because you can hardly see it. I lean toward fine and extra-fine fountain pen tips, but i heavily suggest medium Parker 5th refills. I hope some day they come out with broad so that I can make one of my 4 a signature pen. One last thing. The engrave chromed, high-shine cap and egg-shell colored barrel looked so good on the computer than I spent the money for it. In person... yuk... it looks like Parker married a $200,00 cap with a 50 cent barrel. It spent one day in my house before heading back to Amazon inventory. If Parker comes out with a pen with a matched barrel, I have a place for it... hint... hint!

Works well for a felt-tip pen
Let's face it. The Parker '5th' system is a resurrection of the felt-tip pen housed in a tip that looks like a fountain pen. It's way more convenient that a fountain pen, although without the super-smooth feel of a rolling-ball tip pen. I've found that, over time, the line of these pens gets wider - so unless you want a really wide line, the fine point is the only way to go. Unlike a fountain pen, the tip is rigid enough to use on paper that makes copies via pressure, and the pens have a nice balance and look, without the hassles of the ink in a conventional fountain pen. The black work well too, but I find black tends to be stark and prefer blue for most times I want to sign my name or use a pen. So, if you're looking for a blue refill for a Parker 5th generation pen, I think this is your best choice.

Beautiful pen. Poor refill design
I LOVE the red and gold Asian art pen. Gorgeous. wish it was a fountain pen. Even a roller ball. will any of that fit? The attempt at the new approach to a refill is a failure IMO, even after I figured out how to charge it an ordered fresh new refills.

Best Fountain Pen by far
I have used fountain pens, off and on, since I was in the 8th grade (I'm now a grandmother and retired). The Parker 5th avenue as beat every pen I have owned, even the $400-$500 ones. I have never had ink stain my fingers or blobs made on paper because of the ink. These refills are great, easy to change, and last quite a while. I don't think the price is high and is more than worth it.

Big plusses and minuses
I'm really torn about the whole 5th Technology idea from Parker. The pens look cool (as usual with Parker), and the ink is nice. But the pens and refills are expensive. It is essentially a glorified fiber tip pen. Except the pen tip wears a little to match one's writing style, which is a nice idea but I wish it wouldn't do that. I have other fiber tip pens, and they are expressive enough without this 'feature' (and a lot less expensive). $8 to $10 for a single refill is tough to deal with. But there is a trick I've learned. These refills can be 'recharged' using bottled fountain pen ink.
