Fun transition to EQG4, Bullying themes are a bit heavy.
Okay, before I start this review I want to be clear that I'm part of the older fanbase. I'm a 24 year old guy college student and a very huge fan of both MLP:FIM and EqG. The story in this book continues where EQG 3: Friendship Games ends in fact it begins with a recap where we get to see SciTwi and Princess Twilight Sparkle talk a little bit more then in the actual movie. Yay! <3 Overall, the story of the book is pretty good it teaches what the main show teaches but in a teenager setting where peer pressure is a big thing. It reminds readers that you could be friends regardless if you have differing likes, ideas, and loves. My favorite part is the forgiveness and inclusion portion where SciTwi includes her ShadowBolt Friends to her slumber party even if they weren't the best people around her. The one thing I didn't like about the book and the whole EQG series in general is that clicks, gossip, and general bullying themes in it. I know it's important to let kids know that bullying exists and that you have to deal with it, but being my age I kinda wanted the EQG series to focus on just female companionship and slice of life which what made me a fan of this iteration of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It's refreshing to see in the pony world, but the inclusion of bullying in the EQG spin off series is a turnoff.

No editor
I love these books and the series, but it's becoming more and more apparent that there is no editor! On page 8 it reads "In fact, at the end of the Friendship Games, she had turned into the won stevous Midnight Sparkle."I looked up won stevous. I had to what was Perdita Finn trying to tell us. Somehow... She misspelled monstrous to... won stevous. HOW?! How did that slip through the cracks? If there was or is an editor... How did they not catch that?Other than that. I love the books (both series) but I would love if they would also throw in some other authors. The person who wrote "The Stormy Road to Canterlot" was simply a joy to read!

Good Anti-Bullying Theme!
I appreciate My Little Pony's way of letting the reader know that it's OK to be afraid. For example, the topic of going on a sleepover. It can be scary staying overnight in someone else's home. One character speaks up to tell everyone that she had to have her parent's come get her. Another, admits that she likes to host parties at her house, because she's still uncomfortable staying overnight someplace else. The character's come across as real, and the story reads well for the recommended age group.

A nice gentle read for children, but adds little new material to the franchise for older fans (Uncut US version reviewed).
This is an Equestria Girls fill in book covering the period between the end of Friendship Games and the start of Legend of Everyfree, and provides a short slice of life style interlude in which the other world version of Twilight (dubbed Sci-Twi by fans) gets used to life in Canterlot High. It's probably best described as a friendship\coming of age story and it deals with Twilight's transition between her old school in which students were competitive and isolated, and her new school in where students are friendly and supportive. It's not particularly exciting and doesn't bring much new material to the franchise, so it doesn't have a lot to offer older fans (Yes, I'm talking to all of you out there who are buying this book for themselves). On the other hand, it's easy to read and the characters are both familiar and relatable. The situations that the lead character is in should be familiar to any child who is changing schools or has joined an already established group of friends. It deals with Twilight's worries and insecurities, and shows how she gradually grows in confidence as she discovers the meaning of friendship. The book is largely free of most of the drama\action of the movies, and concentrates entierly on friendships and social interactions. Making the characters more down to earth and more human than their animated counterparts. So it's suitable for a younger audience who might be too sensitive to watch the movies. The book is generally well written and contains a nice mixture of simple dialog and more advanced vocabulary that is suitable for a child with aspirational tastes and a desire to improve their reading level. There is a US version of this book, which I'm reviewing, and a UK version. The UK versions of the MLP books are typically cut\censored and people who have read them report that this has often been done badly. With the remaining paragraphs not always making sense. Unless you're particularly interested in the cut\censored version, the US books are superior.

This was a well used, grubby ex library book ...
This was a well used, grubby ex library book (had USA library sticker inside and out). As I had bought it for my grand daughter I just put it in the bin. Never intended to buy used and presume I missed this information when ordering. Only gave it a star rating as review required it!
